GIBRAN “FISH HAWG” WHITE

Marine Operations Manager and Professional Fishing Guide

Gibran White has been guiding for 30+ years and has worked with Nootka Marine Adventures for the last 8 years.

Gibran’s hometown is Black Rock, BC, and he first started fishing at the age of 8.

Gibran loves fishing with light gear best, and his favourite type of fish to catch is “all of them!” The best part of being a guide for Gibran is creating fantasy. His favourite fishing story is every time he goes fishing with his kids, Liam and Kennedy.

When Gibran is not guiding, he works as our Marine Operations Manager.

SAM “NOBLE ONE” NOBLE

Head Guide

Sam has been guiding for 13+ years and has been working for Nootka Marine Adventures for the last 4 years.

Sam’s hometown is Victoria, BC, and his first fishing experience was with his Dad on Pender Island at the age of one.

Sam’s favourite type of fishing is cut-plugging for Chinook Salmon, and his favourite fish to catch are Chinook and Steelhead. His favourite part of being a guide is “making a living doing what I love!” Ask Sam about the time he guided a guest into a 65lb Chinook.

When Sam isn’t guiding, he works closely with our Marine Operations Manager and continues work as his role of Head Guide.   

COOTER “NOOKIE TIME” SKIDMORE

Professional Fishing Guide

Cooter (Nathan) Skidmore has been guiding for 7+ years with Nootka Marine Adventures.

His hometown is Port Coquitlam, BC, and he grew up in Black Rock, BC. He started fishing at the age of 10.

Cooter’s favourite type of fishing is trolling for salmon and his favourite fish to catch are tuna. Cooter’s favourite part of his job is every time he guides a guest into their first fish.

Cooter’s best fishing story is the time he rolled into a fishing spot with 400 other boats, put his line down for 2 minutes, caught a 20lb fish, then packed up his gear and rolled out.

When he’s not guiding, Cooter enjoys travelling.

BRENT “PUD” KOLB

Professional Fishing Guide

Brent Kolb has been guiding for 15+ years and has been guiding with Nootka Marine Adventures for 4 years.

Brent’s hometown is Olds, Alberta. He started off lake fishing at the age of 10.

Brent’s favourite type of fishing is jigging for bottom fish, but he likes to catch all types of fish. His favourite part of guiding is meeting people. His best memories are all the good times he’s spent fishing with his family.

When Brent isn’t guiding, he works as a Realtor and a Sales Representative for Nootka Marine Adventures.

PAUL “WHITE CHOCOLATE” DYCK

Professional Fishing Guide

Paul Dyck has been guiding for 15+ years and has been with Nootka Marine Adventures for 5 years.

Paul’s hometown is Sidney, BC, where he first started fishing at the age of 6 on the Sidney waterfront. Paul loves fishing for salmon, and his favourite type of fish to catch are Steelhead. His favourite part of being a fishing guide is meeting other people that share the same passion for fishing.

Paul’s favourite fishing story is “the one that didn’t get away”. When he’s not guiding, Paul works as a professional chef.

TOM “OLD GAFFER” KERIK

Professional Fishing Guide

Tom Kerik has been guiding with us for the last 6 years.

Tom’s hometown is Chilliwack, BC, and he started fishing at the age of 5 when his uncle introduced him to lake fishing in Manitoba. His favourite type of fish to catch is tuna.  Ask Tom about the time he caught his first 40lb Spring on the Fraser River with his brother.

Tom’s favourite part of being a guide is spending time in the wilderness of Nootka and when he’s not guiding, Tom is usually spending time with his family and best friends

CODY “WOODY” WEAVER

Professional Fishing Guide

Cody is from the Comox Valley and has been guiding for 5 years. This is his 3nd year with the Nootka Marine Adventures team.

Cody started fishing before he can remember, at his grandfather’s fishing lodge out of Telegraph Cove.

Cody’s favourite type of fishing is cut-plugging for salmon in kelp beds and he loves catching Chinook. His favourite part about being a guide is showing people what the west coast has to offer and to give them the thrill of catching a fish.

Ask him about the time he had to net a tail-hooked 44lb Chinook from his boat, while a guest played it from another guide boat! When he’s not guiding, Cody can be found skiing, traveling, or fishing.

SHANE “DOUBLE DOWN” EVANS

Professional Fishing Guide

Shane Evans has been guiding for 15+ years and has worked with Nootka Marine Adventures for 5 years (and the last 8 in our area).

Shane is from Comox, BC, and was “born and raised on a boat on the West Coast”.

He enjoys late July inshore salmon fishing on light tackle and loves catching Northern Coho on light tackle. For Shane, the best part of being a guide is “a new adventure every day”. When he’s not fishing, he’s thinking about fishing.

Ask Shane about the time he brought in a big Blue Shark with a guest who could only speak Russian!   

PAUL “007” KURBIS

Professional Fishing Guide

Paul has been guiding for 20+ years and has been with Nootka Marine Adventures for 2 years.

Paul’s hometown is Burnaby, BC. He started fishing on Shuswap Lake at his family cabin in the early 70’s out of a canoe.

His favourite kind of fishing is trolling for salmon, and his favourite fish to catch are smileys. Paul’s favourite part about being a guide is being on the water and catching fish while improving peoples lives.

In the off-season Paul spends time with family and likes to golf and travel. His favourite fishing story is a day guiding in Haida Gwaii with a guy with a hook for an arm. He lost a cannonball first thing, but they ended the day at Green Point with an amazing bite and were the last ones on the water. The guests told him it was the best bite they had ever experienced.

MIKE THOMPSON

 Professional Fishing Guide

 Mike has been guiding for 28 years, and has been working with Nootka Marine Adventures for 6 years.

His hometown is Campbell River, and he started fishing when he was very young with family and friends.

His favourite type of fishing is offshore, along the rocks, in the river or at the lake and his favourite fish to catch are steelhead. Mike loves every part of being a fishing guide – from meeting people from all over the world to seeing them experience the excitement of their first fish. He loves tying gear and choosing the right tackle for each tide and location. He has a great love for being out on the water.

When Mike’s not guiding, he is spending time with his wife and kids, and he works as an athletic director and teaches high school physical education. He says there is too many good fishing stories to choose a favourite. He is thankful for the opportunity to have worked alongside some icons of the industry over the years in Nootka Sound. People like Dave Fyfe, Bruce Chard, Paul Pfleger, and Gibran White have given him memories and stories to last a lifetime.

  • Gibran "Fish Hawg" White - Marine Operations Manager

  • Sam "Noble One" Noble - Head Guide

    Sam has been guiding for 13+ years and has been working with Nootka Marine Adventures for the last 4 years.
