Big Fish Are In

The big fish are in!

That’s right – we’ve been seeing plenty of larger Chinook in the 30-pound range hitting the docks over the past week. These are some hard-fighting, skill-testing fish that have been giving our guests quite the thrill. One recent guest was guided into an incredibly fast 31-pound Chinook by guide Nathan (“Cooter”) a few days ago and described the experience as “exceptional”.

Our guides are still focused on the west coast of Nootka Island for salmon, in all the local fishing spots, and we are continuing to have success on spoons, hoochies and anchovies with the bite tending to remain active longer now as the larger schools of migratory Chinook are moving in.

Some recent windy weather has made bottom fishing a bit challenging, though we have seen some nice halibut coming in for those willing to give it a go. Other groundfish have also been relatively easy to find.

We know that this is just the beginning with more migrating large salmon up north headed our way. Our lead guide Sam says, “the timing is perfect for Nootka Sound to get smashed!”

Tight lines,
