2019 Salmon Enhancement Derby
The Salmon Enhancement Derby has been taking place annually since 2011 at Moutcha Bay Resort in Nootka Sound on Vancouver Island. This family-friendly event is designed to raise funds for salmon enhancement and habitat restoration within the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet watershed.
This year, the two-day tournament takes place on June 29 & 30, with participants targeting the larger Columbia River Chinook as they migrate south. Prizes will be awarded to the three largest fish caught over the course of the derby.
The derby is a very social event, with delicious food being served up at the Conuma Grill, live entertainment, raffles, draws, and auctions occurring throughout the weekend. Cash and prizes are up for grabs for our derby winners. Will your name be on the trophy this year?

Prizes & Sponsors
Our derby is successful because of the generous support of our sponsors. Sponsors have the option to support our derby through donations of cash, merchandise, or a combination of both. View the list of derby sponsors for our Salmon Enhancement Derby.
Our Salmon Enhancement Derby is designed to raise funds for salmon enhancement and habitat restoration within the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet watersheds. Our goal is that by actively promoting and participating in these essential projects, we will bring awareness of the importance of environmental programs to the angling community. All the net proceeds from this event go toward the Nootka Sound Watershed Society and the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
One of the many benefits of these family-friendly events is that we continue to see more young people developing a love for sport fishing and an appreciation for their environment.
Nootka Sound Watershed Society
The NSWS is a group of local community members including First Nations representatives, biologists, sport fishermen, industry representatives, and stewards with the common goal of working to protect, restore, and enhance Pacific salmon stocks in the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet watersheds.
