This will be the 14th annual Kayak Derby. As with all our derbies our goal is to raise funds for salmon enhancement and habitat restoration projects within the Nootka Sound watershed, benefiting not only the salmon fishing community but our local natural environment.

Event Information

On September 1st & 2nd, 2018 Nootka Marine Adventures will be holding its 14th annual two-day Kayak Derby, in the waters of Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet.

For Participants

Moutcha Bay Resort will serve as headquarters for the derby where the fish weigh-in and prize ceremonies will take place. This year there is a $60 per contestant entry fee and participants are encouraged to pre-register with our customer service agents in advance of arrival.

Prizes & Sponsors

Our sponsors have the option to support our derby through donations of cash, merchandise or a combination of both. We have some high value products from a variety of sponsors to be featured on our prize table.

Our Purpose

To actively promote and participate in salmon enhancement and habitat restoration in the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet watersheds as well as to foster and develop interest in sport fishing.

Kayak Derby

1ST PLACE: HENRY BENBOW

Henry reeled in a whopping 27.4lb chinook during the derby and won himself a Jackson Kayak Cuda 14 fishing kayak. Thank you to Alberni Outpost for sponsoring this prize.

And a HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to this year’s derby and helped us raise funds for the Nootka Sound Watershed Society. It was a fantastic weekend spent with you all. See you again next year!
