June Fishing Update

Upgrading Our Fleet

Upgrading Our Fleet

One month into our season and we couldn’t be happier that we’ve got plenty of sunshine in the forecast, just in time for our annual Salmon Derby at Moutcha Bay Resort!

The last two weeks have been plagued by rain and heavy west winds, making it difficult to get out front. However, we’ve been happy to find plenty of smaller, keeper-size Chinook on the inside waters of Nootka Sound, which has kept us busy.

The wet and windy weather gave us a chance to focus on upgrades to our guide boats. An extensive electronics upgrade is now complete, with brand new Lowrance HDS-12 touchscreens. Our guides are already blown away by the detail with the high-tech fish finder and chart plotter, which are sure to produce excellent results this season.

We also completed a power upgrade to our fleet with every vessel equipped with new V6 engines. These will give us a faster cruising speed without more fuel burn, increase passenger safety, as well as provide a smoother and more comfortable ride.

Last Wednesday provided us with some milder weather, so we were able to get out front for some fishing. Our head guide Sam got 15 bites by 8:00am on hoochies and anchovies, and reported plenty of salmon in the high 20’s. With many guests arriving and clement weather ahead, we’ll be seeing an abundance of fish hitting the docks over the next few weeks.

Moutcha Bay Resort is gearing up for an action-packed weekend on June 26 & 27 with the return of our annual Salmon Enhancement Derby. Tickets are $100/rod. We still have a small number of campsites left – don’t miss out! Give us a call to book before they’re all gone.
