Fishing and Activities
Fishing
Nootka Sound is a fishing paradise. Bring your own boat and use our launch, complimentary to registered guests.
Both spin fishermen and fly fishermen will find some of the very best freshwater fishing in the world in the Nootka region. Thousands of home-bound salmon return annually to our many rivers and creek systems. Well-known rivers include the Conuma River and Gold River.
The best opportunity for freshwater Chinook salmon is in late August-November, for Coho is in October-December, for steelhead in December-April, and for trout in April-June. Our region also contains a multitude of excellent fishing lakes with plentiful rainbow and cutthroat trout. These lakes are easily accessible and fishable from shore.
Activities
Get outside and explore our many local hiking trails, take a self-guided tour of the spectacular Upana Caves, or hit the trails in your ATV on our many local purpose-built trails. Or simply relax, cozy up, and take in the west coast views!

“This is the best resort that I’ve been to in the last 20 years” – Mark Pendlington, Pro Fisherman
“Moutcha Bay Resort is an absolutely beautiful place. The staff at Moutcha Bay go above and beyond to make sure your stay is top-notch. The newly erected oceanfront camping yurts take “glamping” to another level. We were lucky enough to stay in the luxury yurts situated right on the water. WOW, waking up to the unobstructed ocean views made my vacation!” – Debbie P
