2025 Nootka Sound Tuna Showdown – Entrants

The first annual Nootka Sound Tuna Showdown at Moutcha Bay Resort is set to make waves as an exciting new addition to the west coast fishing tournament scene.

This event brings anglers together to compete for top prizes while celebrating the region’s world-class Pacific Albacore tuna fishery. With a focus on sustainable fishing practices, camaraderie, and thrilling offshore action, the Tuna Showdown promises to be an unforgettable experience for participants.

EARLY BIRD INCENTIVE:

Book before June 30th and receive complimentary moorage during the derby (Moutcha Bay Resort and Nootka Sound Resort guests only).

The Nootka Sound Tuna Showdown takes place September 6-13, 2025. ​

Grand Prize:

• The team that catches the aggregate 4 largest Albacore tuna (weight) over the course of the derby wins $30,000.

Runners Up:

• The team that catches the second highest aggregate 4 largest Albacore tuna (weight) over the course of the derby wins $15,000.

Daily Top Tuna Prizes:

• A prize valued at $5,000 for the largest (weight) Albacore tuna caught each day
  • If no eligible fish are caught on any certain day, the prizing will roll into the next day, and so on.

Hidden Weight Prize:

• This is currently in development and will provide updates as it is confirmed

• Team Entry Fee – $2500 CAD + GST 

• Entry fee must be paid at time of registration and is non-refundable  

• Registration cut-off is August 29, 2025 

• There will be a maximum of four anglers per team and all anglers must only fish on their designated team boat. Any exceptions will be at the discretion of the Derby Manager 

• Each team must have a Team Captain 

• Team Captains must fill out registration form for team 

• Each team member must sign a liability waiver.  Photo release agreement is optional 

• It is mandatory that all Team Captains attend the scheduled opening ceremony/rules & regulations overview on September 6, 2025.  If the Captain does not attend, his/her team will be disqualified from the event  

• Wrist bands will identify team participant members and must always be worn.  These will be distributed to team captains on registration day (September 6, 2025)
